Gundersen Medical Foundation

Gundersen Medical Foundation's mission is to improve the lives of patients and our larger community through medical education, research, outreach and the philanthropic support of Gundersen Health System.

We are committed to improving the health of individuals and families, and we’ve been doing just that for over 60 years. An environment permeated by education, research, and technology, all to enhance patient care, makes Gundersen’s healthcare a source of pride.

Each year we receive thousands of gifts in support of our programs. With these funds, Gundersen Medical Foundation continues to offer innovative programs and project assistance to researchers, medical professionals, and dedicated teachers. With Foundation support, patients are cared for, medicine is taught, and healthy living is encouraged at Gundersen.

Steppin’ Out in Pink History

We are embarking on our 12th year of raising money for breast cancer research and awareness. Steppin’ Out in Pink is a walk for local breast cancer research and other breast cancer initiatives at Gundersen Health System. Steppin’ Out in Pink is the faces and stories of survivors. It's hope.

Patty Brown was being treated for breast cancer at Gundersen Health System 13 years ago, when she got an idea for a local breast cancer fundraising walk. “The idea was more than a little crazy. It was a lot crazy,” she says. But that didn’t stop Patty.

In the midst of treatment—sick and exhausted—she made her way to Robyn Tanke’s office in Gundersen Medical Foundation. “I knew if I talked to my friend Robyn, she would tell me whether my idea would ever fly.”

And fly? You better believe it! The idea—which in our community is affectionately known as Steppin’ Out in Pink—has grown beyond measure in its 11 years of existence.

Your continued support will help us further local breast cancer research initiatives at Gundersen Medical Foundation, provide assistance to breast cancer patients in need, subsidize mammograms to the uninusured and underinsured in our region and lend support to the services of the Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders and Norma J. Vinger Center for Breast Care.  Our mission will always stay the same, we continue to walk with our survivors and remember those that we’ve lost. Our hope is that if we walk today future generations won’t have to…we walk for you!
